Storage / Shipping

Tea Tree Oil must be handled and stored correctly so as to retain its unique balance of over 100 compounds. To prevent oxidation, in particular the oil should be stored under nitrogen in a cool, dry place in a tightly sealed, suitably sized, opaque container. The chemical analysis of Tea Tree oil can remain stable for up to 10 years if stored under ideal conditions.

Due to the solvent properties of Tea Tree Oil all storage and handling apparatus should be free of plastic and rubber components. Ideally the apparatus should consist solely of stainless steel and teflon components.

Storage

Suitable materials for storage containers are classified into short-term only and short &/or long-term categories. Short term storage being 1 to 6 months and long-term being up to 5 years.

Irrespective of the quantity of oil and container material the headspace should be minimised and where possible air replaced with nitrogen prior to sealing. Closures should also be of a suitable material; caps for bottles should preferably be teflon lined; if teflon lining is unavailable aluminium lined caps are the next option.

storage Often containers suited to short-term storage are preferred for shipment due to their lower cost and lighter weight. In this case, if the oil is to be stored for more than 3 months, upon receipt of the shipment the customer should transfer the oil to either opaque glass or stainless steel containers for storage.

Tea Tree Oil is a Class 3 Flammable Liquid and as such must be shipped via air & sea freight under dangerous goods regulations.
